As part of a campaign conducted by the European Road Safety Network (ROADPOL) to prevent road traffic accidents, the police in Latvia are intensifying their control over compliance with traffic regulations. According to the road safety administration, 97 people have died on the roads of Latvia this year, which is eight more than during the same period last year. The main focus will be on vulnerable road users, adherence to speed limits, and the proper transportation of passengers.

A large-scale raid was also conducted on the streets of Riga, involving car-sharing companies Bolt Drive and CityBee. A total of 2372 drivers were checked, with over 30 violations detected, 12 of which concerned driving under the influence of alcohol. Bolt Drive has introduced a new driver rating system, the Driving Score, which helps improve driving style.

The road safety administration has also announced the introduction of video questions in the theoretical driving test, which will enhance the quality of driver training and overall understanding of road situations.
