Starting from 2024, changes to the transport tax regulations in Latvia have come into effect, affecting large families and new vehicle operating tax rates. Large families can now qualify for a benefit if they have three or more children, including non-working youth up to 24 years old who are studying at educational institutions. However, there have been disagreements between a large father and the Road Traffic Safety Directorate (CSDD) regarding the interpretation of the status of a large family. CSDD asserts that the benefit is provided only to 'an individual or their spouse who has three minor children.' Additionally, starting in 2024, tax rates have increased, particularly for motorcycles and passenger cars, and will now depend on carbon dioxide emissions. Reminders about tax payment will be sent to taxpayers by January 10 of the following year. Payment of the tax is required by January 31 and can be made through electronic services or CSDD centers.
