Starting November 1, amendments to the "Driver Training Rules" will come into effect in Latvia, complicating the process of obtaining a driver's license. The changes include an increase in the minimum number of practical driving lessons required to obtain category B from 14 to 20. Driving schools are also required to have specialized training areas. These changes aim to raise the level of driver training and road safety, but have caused dissatisfaction among future drivers and instructors.
Additionally, under the new rules, individual training can only be conducted by individuals who are at least 24 years old with at least five years of driving experience, and instructors are prohibited from having more than seven points recorded for violations. It is also planned that individual instructors will need to register with "e-CSDD" and will not be able to train more than three students per year.
Dissatisfaction has also arisen due to the financial costs of training. According to driving instructors, the new requirements may lead to a reduction in the number of professionals in this field, as the job will become less profitable.
