The Road Traffic Safety Directorate (CSDD) plans to improve the driver training and examination system in response to the increased number of tragic accidents. The change in theoretical exam questions is related to the fact that many beginners simply memorize answers without understanding the essence of the traffic rules. Changes will also affect the issuance of "white" licenses, with the introduction of a new registry for individuals teaching driving outside of driving schools. The innovations will pertain to the registration of instructors and the requirements for practical and theoretical training. Requirements for driving schools will increase, which may lead to longer timeframes and costs for obtaining licenses. At the same time, questions about the possibility of taking the exam in Russian have caused public discontent. The CSDD emphasized that theoretical exams for citizens and non-citizens of the country are conducted only in Latvian, with exceptions for foreign citizens. Examiners will undergo regular training, and the control of their work will also be strengthened. With these new changes, Latvia aims to enhance the training level of drivers.
