The European Commission has presented a new package of measures aimed at reducing CO2 emissions from vehicles, including passenger cars and trucks. From 2035, car manufacturers in Europe will be required to reduce exhaust emissions by 90%, using carbon-containing materials and biofuels to compensate for the remaining 10%. The package also includes a review of requirements for larger vehicles, and a supercredit mechanism will be introduced to support the production of affordable electric cars. By 2030, a reduction in CO2 emissions for trucks is expected from 50% to 40%. There is also a funding provision of 1.8 billion euros for the development of the battery industry in the EU. An important component of the measures will be the update of car labeling rules for clearer information on emissions. Despite protests from many circumstances related to the implementation of new standards, the EU continues on the path of eco-friendly mobility and will reduce administrative costs by 14.3 billion euros annually.
